Collection: Time Magazine

Time, an influential American news magazine that began as a weekly publication in New York City on March 3, 1923. After nearly a century as a weekly, Time transitioned to publishing every other week starting in March 2020.

Time magazine was founded in New York City in 1923 by Briton Hadden and Henry Luce, two Yale graduates who had previously collaborated on the Yale Daily News. For their new magazine, the pair originally wanted to call it Facts, intending for it to provide busy readers with brief news summaries they could read quickly. However, they ultimately named it Time and used the slogan "Take Time - It's Brief." As managing editor, the more serious Luce viewed Time as an important news source, while the carefree Hadden saw it as both important and entertaining. This led to Time's eclectic coverage of news ranging from celebrities and politics to entertainment and pop culture, for which it was sometimes criticized as being too lightweight.
