Collection: StreetScene Magazine
StreetScene is the official publication of the National Street Rod Association (NSRA). The NSRA is located in Memphis, Tennessee, but the magazine's editorial offices were in California from the beginning. The first editorial office was at 21822 Sherman Way, Canoga Park, California.
Originally started as a four page newsletter in November-December 1971, StreetScene evolved from a bi-monthly publication into the official newspaper of the NSRA in late 1972. Becoming more professionalized with the addition of an appointed editor and masthead, StreetScene began self-funding through membership in June 1973, no longer needing financial support from automotive companies for printing costs.
With a growing staff of editors, photographers and production assistants, StreetScene transitioned from a newspaper format to a 46-page magazine in February 1974. Volume and issue numbers were formalized in July 1973. And full color printing was introduced to the cover at the end of 1973, with the first full color editorial content appearing in 1978.
Early editors included Dick Wells (1971-1973), Jeff Kroon (1973-1974), Eric Pierce (1974-1975), Cec Draney (1975-1976), Gary Medley (1976-1978). Joe Mayall held the editorial role for over 30 years. Content has consistently encompassed regional and national events, classified ads, coming events and industry products - alongside advertising from pioneering manufacturers and suppliers in the hot rod and street rod realm.
